Did you know that tummy tucks are among the most popular plastic surgery procedures? According to the Aesthetic Society, the market for tummy tucks increased by 49% from 2020 to 2021. However, this isn’t the only popular procedure, and plastic surgeons don’t expect the popularity of elective surgery to decrease anytime soon. There are many different reasons why people desire to have plastic surgery, and fortunately, there are many options that are available. Today we’ll take a closer look at five of the more popular procedures performed by skilled plastic surgeons.
1. Rhinoplasty
More commonly referred to as a nose job, rhinoplasty is a popular procedure for men, women, and adolescents. Many people require this procedure to repair broken or damaged septums. Others opt for rhinoplasty to fix what they believe to be an unattractive personal feature. It’s important to fully discuss your expectations and review all possible options. Whether you want to eliminate a bump, straighten out your bridge, or decrease the size of your nose, you can expect to feel more confident about your appearance after surgery. Changing such a prominent facial feature can alter your entire appearance. In our experience, we’ve seen that patients can expect bruising to last about 10 days. After this short period of recovery, it’s possible to return to your normal activities.
2. Liposuction
This is another procedure that’s popular with both men and women. Men typically opt to have their “spare tire” removed, while women tend to focus on their midsections and thighs. Liposuction is less invasive than surgery and has a shorter recovery time. If you’re interested in liposuction, now is the time to act. You’ll be amazed at the results! There are, of course, risks associated with this procedure that you’ll want to discuss with your surgeon during your consultation. Many people resume normal activities after just a few days, although everyone’s experience is unique.
3. Blepharoplasty
This is a procedure that’s becoming more popular with a wider range of people. The name sounds complicated, but the procedure is simply a reshaping of the eyelids. An upper blepharoplasty is simply an eyelid lift, while a lower blepharoplasty is a procedure that removes the fat pads that create lower eye bags. Gravity and age can affect the eyelids and the area below the eyes. While these procedures do improve your appearance, they are often necessary for medical and quality-of-life reasons. Drooping eyelids and fat pads beneath the eyes can become more pronounced over time, and can even affect a patient’s vision if left unaddressed.
4. Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)
This procedure is less about fat removal than it is a means of removing excess or sagging skin. Popular with both men and women, a tummy tuck is used in a few targeted ways. Women who have given birth and have excess belly skin due to their pregnancies often have a tummy tuck shortly after childbirth. It’s also a common procedure for anyone who’s undergone bariatric bypass surgery. This type of surgery often results in a slimmer physique but one with excess skin in the abdominal area. It’s important to note that a tummy tuck is a skin removal procedure, not one to remove excess fat. We’ve seen recovery times range from a few weeks to as long as a few months until normal activity could be resumed.
5. Breast Augmentation
There are many different types of breast augmentation procedures as well as a number of different reasons why patients have them done. In recent years, silicone implants have grown in popularity after a period of time when they were deemed unsafe. If you want larger breasts, augmentation can provide them for you. This procedure is sometimes undertaken by women who’ve undergone single or double mastectomies. It’s also popular with women who have two breasts that are different sizes or misshapen. Reduction mammaplasty, commonly referred to as breast reduction, is a similar procedure with the opposite outcome. Breast lifts are another common procedure, especially for women who are finished having children and breastfeeding. If you’re unhappy with the size or appearance of your breasts, there are many available options. We’ve witnessed recovery times vary from two weeks to a month or two until patients could return to normal activity.
